Adventure Guide Program

Project: Adventure Guide Program. May-July 09
Description: A designer and an environmental policy maker embrace adventure to bring social and political context to adventure activities. Collaboration with Emma-Louise Hardman
Client: TYF Adventure
What is an experience further than a series of interactions? Gathering data in the field with TYF guides helped understand client expectations and the challenges that guides encounter.
Adrenaline seems to heighten every sense, somehow even your memory flicks to overdrive. Maybe this works in reverse, do you remember the things that you learn during these experiences more effectively? The issues highlighted in data collected at Do Connect events formed the basis for relevant action points in the guides storybook.

The Adventure Guide Program resulted in a handbook of stories and facts making climate change tangible and experience relevant supported by a series sessions. Weekly workshops based on Climate Change improved confidence and understanding of the facts and Human Centered Design workshops helped guides to better understand expectations of clients and other guides. Client adventures developed to include a greater exchange of knowledge and 'take away' relevance.

Hanging out with adventure guides I...
threw myself into experiential research x realised that design can apply to everything x conquered my fear of the ocean x found that working with specialists makes research instant x  learnt that expectations are as relevant as experience x confirmed that people care about their environment.
